Like the topic says, how to use MP3 as ringtone? Currently, I can only use the tones that come with the phone. However, I've got a number of MP3s in my Storage Card and I'd like to use one of them as my ringtone. How do I do this? Thanks!

Well, I finally found out how to do this weeks ago. First, find the MP3 u want to use as a ringtone. Select and hold down the MP3 for a few second. A menu will pop up. Select the option as "Set as ringtone". Touch PRO will then copy the mp3 into the device's main memory: \My Documents\My Ringtones.

Audio files in "My Ringtones" folder can only be used as ringtone and not as SMS or any other kind of tone. To use the audio for SMS or any other type of tones, copy the file into \Application Data\Sounds folder. You will now be able to use any audio files in that folder as whatever tone u want.

Enjoy!

There is a better way to use mp3s as ring tones. You can use a program called Vip pim ring. it is available here...

http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-vip-pim-ringtone-v3-9.html

It allows you to assign ringtones to each individual conact or to groups... However, this program will allow you to point the windows os towards wherever you like for the location of the ringtones. This includes the memory card so you don't have to transfer your rintones to the device memory. As for your volume issue, you're rings are just quiet... I use a program I got with my BB Pearl called Roxio. It allows you to edit ringtones, including being able to raise the decibels on the track. I usually raise mine between +3 and +5. If you do it too much it will sound distorted or you will blow your speaker. The program can be found for free at BB website. I'm sure there are other ones out there but I find this easy to use.

The easiest way to make a ringtone is to use the MP3 Trimmer app that comes with the phone. (I have the CDMA version)

You open a MP3 file from your memory card, trim it to however long you want (25 seconds is long enough) then save it in the ringtone folder then set it as ringtone later, or just set it as your default ring tone right away.

Thats all you have to do.

I have to disagree with the above post, the ONLY way to make an .mp3 is Audacity http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

I highly recommend it, you won't be disappointed

Heh.  When I said the ONLY way, I meant it just like people who fly first class say it is the only way to fly.

Try not to be so literal...

So I have a more precise question and I'm hoping someone will understand my question. When you set a specific ringtone for a contact in your phone book. Lets say the song "Crossroads" set to the contact "Brian" does that mean that when "Brian" sends me a txt message, my phone will alert me with the "crossroads" song?? I know it does it for the ring when he calls, but I also want the txt alert. If it doesn't do it, is there a way to change or hack that? THNXX

Sorry, you CAN put ringtones on contacts, but it is selfsaid; If you put a RINGTONE on a contact it does not alert you with this tone when you recive a MSG Tongue

But you CAN'T put different ringtones on different people...

I believe there are third party apps out there that let you do this. Haven't dabbled in it though.

I have the CDMA version and you can put a different ringtone for every contact if you want!

So I have Adobe Audition, can I build my ringtone as an MP3 and use that? That would be so cool to customize exactly what I want! Cheers Jan

you should also have "MP3 Trimmer" on your phone. It's a breeze creating ringtones with it!
