Hello All,

I just got my new HT Touch Pro and installed a navigation software (iGO 2006) onto it.
When I open the application, I get now GPS signal even if I am outside in open space (no tall buildings, no canopies, no trees etc.).
Is it possible by any chance that the GPS module to be entirely missing?
How may I check?

Thanks for replying.

Hallo,
        Its for sure HTC Touch Pro comes with a GPS module. Its just maybe the software is not compatible with the hardware module or your device has a faulty GPS internal Module. Fear not, try installing Google Map and use it to check whether your GPS module is working or not. Go out of any building into a clear sky and activate the Google Map. If it asked for internet data connection, just deny it and it will use GPS Sat to track your current location. Try and and give some feedback on the locking speed. Smiley

Brendan,

Do you have a link to where I can download the google map app. for Touch Pro?
If you have, I can test it in the next half an hour.

Thanks,
Dya

Done, installed Google Maps for mobile version: 2.0.1.28.
I have set the app to run using GPS (although I was not asked at installation time) and then I have carefully watched the messages: searching for satellites (0)...
In the end some map appeared with the pinpoint on my current location (quite accurate). Still I cannot tell if the GPS is working or the mobile Internet connection was used to retrieve the data.
Is there a way of seeing this? Seeing the list of actual satellite(s) to which the GPS is (was) connected?

LE: response time is short: under 1 minute.

On the right hand corner, you will see the "Searching for Satellites (0)... , watch it while in open sky, if the GPS is working, it will be tracking more sat and you should see the number incrementing, like "Searching for Satellites (5)....". If you are using the data connection, you will see a 'H' or 'G' or '3G' under the signal level bar.

In the meantime my researches have produced wonderful results.
I will share with you here:

1. In Start->Settings->System->External GPS I have set on the Software tab the communication port COM4;
2. Finally, iGO6 started showing some satellites but no connection. Good start! Now I am convinced the GPS is working;
3. I have finally got my iGO8 working on the phone. A later version of iGO8 from 30th of July works on Raphael too, but the GPS connection was very very slow: from 5 to 10 minutes to connect to any satellite;
4. From Start->Programs-QuickGPS I have downloaded the latest relative satellite positions from whatever server they are kept, onto the phone. The information remains available for 6 days and 22 hours. After this you need to refresh it by a new download;
5. I have started again right after this download iGO8. By the time I have finished entering the address I wanted to plot a course to, the satellites were already connected!!! THAT WAS BELOW 20 SECS.!!!!!

I have to mention that in order to use the QuickGPS software (provided with the phone) you will need an active GPRS/3G connection and a data plan, as you will be charged for the traffic over the Internet for the connection with the satellite server.

That's about all for now. The phone is marvelous! I really love it!
