Hi all,
thought I'd keep you entertained by logging my newest experiment:

Thought it would be nice to travel with several gigs of movies to watch on the phone. As some of you know, I also use an HTC Diamond and it doesn't have a removable sd card. So, I figure I'd load them on my flash drive and see if I can't access them through the mini usb.

I have just ordered a USB Female 2.0 to USB Mini Male 5 pin adapter to plug my thumbdrive into.

When it arrives, I will report back if it works, or if it's a flop.

This sounds interesting. I can't say that I think it'll work, since most USB drives draw power from the port, and Idk if the phone will output power. If not try using the little connector that lets you charge with headphones in, maybe that will allow it to get more  power?

This is also assuming the power drawn by a USB drive is anything more than negligible

Today, my usb adapter arrived. Joy!

The phone I'm using is a HTC Touch Diamond, since it does not have a removable storage card.

So first I hooked up straight to the flash thumb drive. My thumb drive glows when it's plugged in / drawing power.

Result: It did not glow. It did not show up in the File Explorer on the phone.

Then I hooked up my Archos PVR to it. When the pvr recognizes a usb connection, it goes into sync/hard drive mode.

Result: Neither the PVR nor th phone knew they were connected to each other.

I haven't hooked it up to the phones dual dongle yet, so it could be charged while connected, but I doubt it will change the results.

Conclusion: The experiment was a FAIL.

I believe, if it is possible to overcome the power issue, it would still need some sort of driver to allow for the INPUT of a secondary drive (that's why the computer files don't show up on the phone).

Thanks all who've followed my experiment. At least we can say: It's been tried. Smiley

Yeah! To bad it didn't work, that would've been amazing if it did work!

Well, maybe someone will find a solution, in time, for this.

same. found a driver. haven't had time to try it out yet. Need to make some time, when I feel like a hard reset, just in case it messes things up.
