It seems that setting system volume and ring volume are the same thing. When you set one, the other is set also. Is there a way to set them independently?

they should adjust seperately when you use the volume toggle.

Speaking of ring volume.  I am new to the Touch Pro and when my phone rings it is a pretty quite ring.  I "think" I have set the volume to its highest, but I'm not sure.  Where do I need to check to make sure my ringer is set to the loudest?  I have the volume slider all the way to 100% and the Ring bar set to the highest level......It is still a soft ring.  Any other places or suggestions?  Thanks in advance.

This one might help you:
Look for "Badboy8813 Audio Fix- (Lite Boost)" - it might be in our master app thread, if not, try ppcgeeks.com.

I also read around the webs that the speaker get muffled by debry or a missing cut-out in the screen protector.

Personally, I had a Diamond with a wicked loud speaker. Loved it! Sadly, the vibration gave out on it and I got a replacement yesterday.
The volume is sucking so bad, I could just cry....

The in-call volume is great - but ringtones are very quiet  and there doesn't seem anything I can do about it.

I believe some of the earlier builds have shotty hardware.

Diamond Tweak also has an adjustment for volume.

To check if you've got the ring volum to the highest:

IN TF3D!
Settings::Sound::Check if the volum under Rings is to 100%
