Hello,
New member here, forgive me if this question has been answered before I did a forum search for "skype verizon" but the only post that cam up had a bunch of questions with no answers.
I'm considering getting a TP2 from verizon when they come out. The reason I picked Verizon is because currently I get no coverage with Sprint at my house, coverage at work is spotty at best, and of the 3 carriers with the TP2 I get a discount through work for Sprint and Verizon but not T-mobile (plus the reported lower price point on the phone with Verizon compared to Sprint and T-mobile helped). Anyway, after looking at their plans I was considering going with an unlimited data package (with no voice, if I can still get the subsidized price that is) and using skype for calls.
I did, however, have a few questions that I would like answered before I pull the trigger, as they say, and this seemed like a perfect place to do it. I've been wary of signing on to Verizon's boards for fear of them outlawing skype on their network and linking my forum handle to my account. And I've searched the WinMo boards at Skype and there seem to be more questions than answers there.
So my questions are
1. Is there a problem with using Skype on Verizon? I don't mean is it against their rules, I mean from net searches I've come on several stories of people with verizon phones having really bad luck with skype but those stories are also 1-2 years old, so my question is has anyone had any problems like poor call quality, their server booting you when you use skype, having to install a non-verizon version of the system software on the phone, etc?
2. As I understand it, Verizon's data service will boot you due to inactivity after a while (according to their terms of service it says 2 hours). If I'm in a place where I don't have Wi-Fi and the Verizon data service boots me due to inactivity (say I'm driving for 4 hours down the highway) and someone calls me on my skype account, can it be set up so it will push the call to me? Or will I simply be unable to answer their call?
3. Battery life, I've heard some people bemoaning the battery life on the TP2, whether I'm dependent upon the data service or Wi-Fi would you guys suggest not doing this simply because Wi-Fi and the data service are (at least on most devices) so power intensive, and will drain my battery too fast to make this a good idea?
Again I'm sorry if these questions have been asked and answered before. I considered posting this on the tp2 sister site but since the phone isn't out for Verizon just yet, and the first two questions are really more of carrier questions than specific phone questions, I figured this would probably receive more views and have a better chance of being answered.
Thanks
