I was pretty excited about solving my original ActiveSync problem (unable to install), but now I've run into another.

When I connect my phone to my computer, there's no sync action. This is not good. I can't re-install/repair AS 4.5 and I can't uninstall it - can't remember the message in the pop-up window right off hand.

Any thoughts?

I ran into a similar problem like 1 week ago!!

Check if the phone charges when connected via USB.

(Remember to uncheck the option: START::SETTINGS::SYSTEM::POWER::When device is turned on, do not charge the battery when connected to the PC)

It does charge when connected to the computer via USB. I've gotten a message - both when trying to uninstall and reinstall - that ActiveSync didn't complete installation, which I don't understand. And like I said, I can't uninstall and do a clean reinstall, and I have no idea how to repair the installation. Would a connection to an Exchange server interfere with any of this?

I don't want to try to "rip" the files out manually, but I'm really at a loss here, and I have to get this thing syncing with my computer again. I am totally open to any and all suggestions!

It might be that your connection with the exchange server interferes...

I've looked around for an alternative sync program for you, but came up empty.

Thanks for the search effort, Atomic. I really love the phone, but the syncing issues are really ticking me off. And I really, really need the phone syncing with the computer - I chose the TP because it would work with the software I use for my Mary Kay biz. I had wanted a Palm Pre, but Sprint coverage where I live sucks, it doesn't sync to a computer, and my software isn't compatible with the new Palm OS. This was my only hope, Obi Wan... LOL

I'm gonna keep tinkering. If I come up with a solution, I'll post. And if anyone else comes up with an idea, please post!

Ahh! You've got Palm OS program installed on the machine?

Uninstall Palm OS program then try to reinstall ActiveSync. REMEMBER! Windows 7 and Windows Vista is NOT capible with Activesync! W7 and WV runs WMDC (Windows Mobile Device Center)
You can download it at: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/downloads/microsoft/device-center-download.mspx
Just select the version (32- or 64bits)
!ONLY Windows XP runs ActiveSync!

Back to what I was about to say.
I've experienced the exact same problem, a hard reset was actually the solution! (I Flashed to a new ROM, but it goes for the same)
If Activesync won't help you when Palm OS program is uninstalled I would suggest you do a hard reset.

I've uninstalled the Palm software. And I can't afford to do a hard reset - I have info on the phone that needs to be synced to the computer (back to that Mary Kay thing again). I'm still running XP too. Like I said, I can't fix the install and I can't uninstall - the software won't let me. The only thing I can think of to do at this point is to just delete the AS folder from the computer, restart, and hope like hell I can do an install from the CD. I'm not real comfortable with that option, though.

OK, this might be crucial info toward solving the problem. When I try to uninstall (thru Add or Remove Programs), I get a message that says "Fatal error during installation". Same error if I click on Change. What the Hades is going on?   Shocked  Angry  Cry

Maybe you can set your computer back to an earlier date (System Recovery)?

HUM!!!

Well, I would do a Hard Reset. Just move the important files over to a Memory Card.

Messages, E-Mails, Appointments, Tasks, Speed dails, Call logs and Contacts can be backed up with a program called PIM Backup.
You can also back up costum with PIM backup. meaning files etc... (Documents, pdfs, music, pictures etc...)
But I suggest that you put them manually over to the memory card.

Now, you will need a memory card (If you don't have one you won't need more than 512 GB memory card - which is cheap (NOTE! That is only if you do the backup))

Save the backup file on the Memory card and take the memory card out. NOW hard reset the phone, everything will still be there when you lunch PIM Backup after hard reset and restored the PIM file.

TO GET PIM BACKUP!
Either download the cab into the memory card by putting it into the PC. OR: download the cab using the internet on the phone (WIFI preffered).

A memory card I have - 16GB. Plenty of room to move info.  Smiley

Alrighty. I'm going to move info to the memory card, do a System Restore on my computer, do a hard reset on the TP, and pray it all works out. That's my task for the evening.  Tongue

Keep your fingers crossed and I'll let you know what happens. Thanks for all the help!  Kiss

Addendum: Downloaded PIM Backup and stored the backup on the SD card. That should keep all the info I need *prays really hard*.

Okey-dokey. I tried to go for a restore point, but the computer only gave me messages that it could not do the restore. So that's out. After doing some tinkering, I decided to double-check files on my new WD external drive. Got back my MK info, but it's still not up to date cuz I can't sync. (Still can't repair/uninstall.) But now when I try to sync, I'm actually getting an error message and here's the technical stuff:

Error Signature
EventType : BEX     P1 : WCESMgr.exe     P2 : 4.5.5096.0     P3 : 4558dbea
P4 : WCESMgr.exe     P5 : 4.5.5096.0     P6 : 4558dbea     P7 : 000a8fb2
P8 : c0000409     P9 : 00000000

The following files will be included in this error report:
C:\DOCUME~1\PAULAL~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER8c44.dir00\WCESMgr.exe.mdmp
C:\DOCUME~1\PAULAL~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER8c44.dir00\appcompat.txt

Does this mean much of anything to anyone? All I'm getting from it is that there's a problem with the WCESMgr.exe file, but I have no idea how to fix the thing. I was hoping to be a clever monkey and just copy it from the install disc to the AS folder, but that doesn't seem to be an option.

That's all for now, folks!

oh that's a bummer! This happened to me a while back and it corrupted a whole bunch of things on my computer - and there was no restore point to be saved.

I ended up saving all my stuff to an external hard drive and had to factory reset my computer.
