I have really been wanting to unlock my Touch Pro so I can load up the latest Verizon ROM (the pre-release).

I have managed to get my Windows 7 64bit machine to load a "Generic Serial' driver for my phone by unchecking 'Advanced Mode' in the USB Connection. I have also downloaded and installed the latest WMDC offered by windows (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/downloads/microsoft/device-center-download.mspx).

When I look at the properties of my "Generic Serial" device it is named PocketPC USB Sync. This makes me think that Windows has some understanding of whats going on. Heck, It even knows the manufacturer is HTC.

The part that sucks is WMDC never says anything is connected. I get the bing bong, the driver loads but WMDC never connects.

Now I'm not even sure if I need WMDC to recognize my device to upload the latest ROM but from what I read it definitely is required.

Thanks in advance,
Zach

yeah, you'll want to have that connection. You won't need to create a partnership, but you'll have to get it to recognize the connection.

I know some people flash from the storage card - but I never tried that.

I know NIX about Windows 7 (running a 64bit Vista). So, good luck!

Please use search before posting a new thread.

WMDC -

Try the tips and tricks there.
Remember ActiveSync and WMDC is basiclly the same thing, only for different OS.

Ya a search did pop anything up that I haven't tried. It's very odd that the phone loads a driver but WMDC has no idea what's going on. I figure I will just throw Verizon a call and make them help me out...Like their gonna haha.

Hey man,

Sorry it took so long to respond but here is a couple of steps you can try which may seem repetitive comparing to what you have done.

First uninstall WMDC.

Then click this link. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=4F68EB56-7825-43B2-AC89-2030ED98ED95&displaylang=en This is the link to the 64-bit version of WMDC

Install it

Next start WMDC and wait until it loads

Next, connect your phone and make sure to choose ok after "ActiveSync" is highlighted on your phone

At that time it should install the driver for the phone
(I dont believe there is a stand alone driver for the phone)

The only step I could think of that you MAY have overlooked was using 32 bit WMDC which i dont think would matter as it shouldn't affect the drive download.  The best thing I can think of is start from scratch and make sure your phone connects via active sync.

So after some more dinking around I figured it out!  Cheesy

All I had to do was go under my active sync options in my phone and enable "Synchronize all PCs using this connection: USB'

Basically, open active sync on your phone=>menu=>connections...check the box for USB!

Thanks for your time guys!
