after searching my tail off for the last few days i have found a way...i do not take credit for this only credit for the hours and hours of searching

First, you will need a registry editor. Here is one: http://www.zshare.net/download/55813061d7acba/

Once installed, open it up and go to:
HKLM\Software\OEM\PhoneSetting

Once there, you should see an item called HiddenModeOperationPage

By default is should show:

1

Now change the 1 to a 0

Once that is done, go to settings-->phone--->services

Scroll down on the menu and you should now see Mode of Operation. In there, you can choose to have your phone in Hybrid mode(switching between EVDO and 1X automatically if EVDO is unstable), EVDO Only, or 1X Only.

I wonder if it's related to the changes you made or server related.

If you set the settings back the way they were, does your texting work then?

This only seems to happen in certain areas.  At home I have about 2 bars of service, but get flawless evdo coverage.  I travel a lot and from time to time I get this.  I was in Pittsburgh a few days ago staying in the hotel at the airport with full bars on evdo surfing the net.  Next thing I know everythings crawling and I'm in 1x.  It switched back and forth the entire time I was there.  I left the hotel and was in the terminal on the other side of the airport and didn't have a problem.

Have you called sprint to see what they say?
